The Costa Daurada has a very complete and varied kitchen, characterised by the ingredients from the sea as well as from the inland, with delicious banquet and wines. The Tarragonese kitchen besides has always something festively, like the calV otades; a tasty onion that is roasted on a big fire, disposed of the outside peel with bare fingers and is eaten after dipping in the sauce. Typical food and sauces are: xató (curl salad with olives, anchovy, stockfish and tuna), all i oli (garlic sauce), paella (rice with fish or meat) and more inland the food is more substantial and abundant, based on sheep meat or grilled sausage..

Calafell has a rich culture when it comes to food. As well as offering an international menu for the visitor, there are some dishes, unique to the area such as the "fideua", a variety of fish, caught locally and seasoned in traditional style. The area also produces some original wines which have to be sampled.     

On the coastal part of Calafell one can find many restaurants that prepare all international food. But if you want to experience the typical and traditional dishes, one must ask for ‘fideua’ which is a seafood stew with vermicelli. But the most traditional dish is called ‘El Arrosejat’, the base for this is rice or vermicelli which it must be fried until well done. After this it is poured ‘the fumet’ which is fish stock. Then you boil it and serve it in an earthenware cooking pot. The Co-operative of Calafell was founded in 1922 and the main production is in vineyards, carobs, olives, and the marketing of wine and ‘cava’.
